Aftercare

So you have a new tattoo! Congratulations, now here’s how to look after it.

Remove the cling film after 1-4 hours, or if you have second skin remove it the morning after your appointment. Ensure you are in a clean environment to be able to wash your tattoo

Wash your hands always before touching your tattoo to prevent any germs from spreading. Gently wash your tattoo with unscented soap gently - avoid scrubbing. Take special care to remove any excess ointment, ink or dried blood.

Dry your tattoo area by blotting with a clean dry towel, or preferably paper towels allowing your tattoo to air dry is also okay.

Repeat this process 2-3 times within the first 24 - treating it like an open wound trying to stay clean.

After the first 24 hours wash your tattoo at least twice a day, especially if the area becomes sweaty or dirty

Once your tattoo is dry, apply a small amount of fragrance free moisturiser, or an aftercare product recommended by your artist - e.g. Palmers Coco butter (my personal favourite)

Apply the aftercare 2-3 times a day or when your tattoo feels dry - make sure not to smother your tattoo and allow it to breathe.

Repeat the last two steps daily for 2-3 weeks until fully healed
Do not scratch or pick your tattoos.
Avoid contact with pets and pet hair.

Do not submerge in water or swim till your tattoo has healed, avoid exposure to direct sunlight. Avoid subbed and swimming for at least 28 days.( Consider this when booking your tattoo if you have a holiday coming up)

After fully healed use sunscreen all year round to maintain the vibrancy of your tattoo
